I could have gone another 12 month Turkey XBLG code to get the full 3 years, but I wanted to redeem these other codes I purchased at some point since it's been a couple of years since I bought them, so I stopped short of a full 3 years for now, in case some weirdness happens. It was purchased in a different region from your account", but after re-opening the redemption page a 4th time or so, it suddenly decided to take the GPU code, not sure what changed exactly. The Target code redemption gave me errors at first, "This code can't be redeemed. Also, at no point did the system offer me to turn on recurring billing to get additional months, unfortunately.
The $1 GPU promo no longer applied to me as I believe I used it back in 2019 when this whole thing started to get my 3 years of GPU. I'm still sitting on another 6 months of GPU codes purchased from Target. I then redeemed a 3 month GPU code I purchased from Target back in end of 2020 at $20 each and converted those two years to GPU, I'm now good until April 2025. I had an additional US 12 month XBLG card that I purchased a few years ago that I also redeemed successfully after turning off VPN. I purchased a 12 month Turkey XBLG card from Eneba for $30~, VPN to Turkey, redeemed successfully. Can confirm the method described in OP still works.
My GPU expired last night after 3+ years.
